Job Description
The employee will work as part of a mixed farm operation specializing in beef cattle and cash crops (corn, soybeans, and small grains). Duties include livestock care and machinery operation throughout all farming seasons. The worker will be expected to operate safely, maintain equipment, and assist with general farm maintenance as needed.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Livestock Duties:
• Feed and monitor beef cattle; ensure adequate water and clean bedding.
• Assist with tagging, and vaccination.
• Maintain livestock housing, yards, and handling equipment in sanitary condition.
• Follow biosecurity and animal welfare standards.
Machinery and Crop Duties:
• Operate tractors, planters, combines, sprayers, and feed-handling machinery.
• Perform tillage, planting, spraying, and harvesting fieldwork.
• Operate loaders and trucks to move feed, equipment, and crops.
• Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on farm equipment.
• Follow safety procedures and report mechanical or operational issues promptly.
• Assist with grain handling, storage, and equipment cleaning.
Requirements
• Minimum 5 years of experience in livestock and/or farm equipment operation (experience on a family farm accepted).
• Experience with cattle handling and crop production preferred.
• Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot farm machinery.
• Physically capable of performing outdoor and manual work in all weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license required; truck or equipment operator’s license an asset.
• Basic mechanical and record-keeping skills.
• No specific education required; post-secondary training in agriculture an asset.
• First Aid or farm safety certification an asset.
Work Conditions and Terms
• Work will vary with seasonal demands, including extended hours during calving, planting, and harvest periods.
• Mix of indoor (barn) and outdoor field environments.
• Standing, walking, lifting, and machinery operation daily.
• Teamwork and collaboration with farm management and general labourers.
