All of our commodities took some time yesterday trading on the positive side. Unfortunately they all fell into the negative as traders did some consolidation of their positions and likely booked in some profits. Rumours and speculation is out there that China and the US are talking about President Trump making a state visit to China. This is unlikely to occur unless the trade deal is completed and President Trump is able to make a major announcement. This could possibly include large soybean sales to China. Unfortunately this is still just a rumour at this time with no confirmation coming from either side.
Interest rates were decreased yesterday in both Canada and the US. This did result in some weakness in the US dollar on the world market but no real drastic move. We should note that both Central Banks talked about the potential for further increases later this year.
Weekly ethanol production in the US decreased last week by 0.5%. They produced 1.055 million barrels per day of ethanol which utilised 106 million barrels of feedstock. If averaged over a marketing year they would utilize 5.45 billion corn bushels. Blender demand was up last week however exports decreased slightly. The end result was that ethanol stocks declined about 1% week over week down to 22.60 million barrels (949 million gallons) which is near 2025 calendar year lows.
