Wednesday was a mostly negative day for our markets.  Harvest corn closed down 2, harvest soybeans closed down 6 1/2, spot winter wheat closed up 4 and spot spring wheat closed down 4.  In the overnight trade all of our markets are back on the negative side.  Oil closed up $0.95 yesterday at $95.09 per barrel.  It is flat in trading this morning with it now priced at $95.10.  Our dollar has traded between a low of $0.700 US and a high of $0.704 US over the last 24 hours with it currently valued this morning at $0.704 US.

The market seemed to be in a rinse and repeat stage yesterday.  All of our markets spent some time on both sides of the ledger with three of them ending negative and only one on the positive yesterday.  Our markets continue to sputter along as they are looking for reasons to go one way or another.

Some potential optimism for the corn market is the reduced corn crop in Europe this year which should result in increased imports into that region.  With continued issues in getting grain exported out of Ukraine this market could look to both US and Canada to fill some of this void.  We should note that corn in Europe is currently trading about $3 per bushel higher than the CBOT.  This should make corn from this side of the ocean attractive in their markets.  We should note that in most years some corn is exported from Ontario and Quebec into Europe.  Hopefully this year the amount of these exports will increase.

The USA did report yesterday the flash sales of 470,000 tonnes of soybeans to China.  This is the first major purchase since the two Presidents had their meeting last month.  Unfortunately even with the announcement of this purchase it was not enough to drive prices higher.  This is a very poor sign for soybean prices going forward.  Many analysts talked about when China started making purchases again that it would drive prices and it obviously did not at this time.
