Wednesday was a mixed day for our markets. Spot corn closed down 2, spot soybeans closed up 11 1/2, spot winter wheat closed down 2 1/2 and spot spring wheat closed down 1 3/4.  In the overnight trade all of our markets are back on the positive side.  Oil closed up $0.29 yesterday at $60.65 per barrel. It is weaker in trading this morning with it now sitting at $59.75 per barrel. Our dollar has traded between a low of $0.722 US and a high of $0.725 US over the last 24 hours. This morning it is sitting near the lower end of the range with it currently valued at $0.723 US.

All commodities started on in a stronger position yesterday morning, but that didn’t hold throughout the day for the corn or wheat markets. Corn traders ended up selling off a bit at the end of the day, just a couple cents to close the day slightly below even. The market was all about soybeans yesterday, specifically soybean oil led the complex higher. There wasn’t a whole lot of news to support the increase in the market. There is also possibly some speculation around a possible EPA news release in the coming weeks.

Argentina’s 10 day forecast is very dry, which could also be supporting the strength in the soybean market yesterday. As they are a big soy-product exporter. The soybean crop still has a long way to go. Traders are also expecting the EPA to release a decision soon regarding volumes in the bio-fuel market. Rumors are that the volume that will be announced has potential to be very supportive for soybean oil.

Soybeans have been positive 4 out of the last 5 trading days, with most of the news that is circulating viewed to be more bearish than bullish. Soybeans are still below the 50 and 100 day moving average, but have now managed to get above the 20-day moving average which is a good sign.

China has purchased the 12 million tonnes as promised from last fall’s trade negotiations with the Trump administration. There aren’t any more purchases expected as the South American beans are still sitting at a discount to the North American soybeans.
