Friday was a mixed day for our markets.  Harvest corn closed up 5, harvest soybeans closed up 3, harvest winter wheat closed down 1 1/4 and harvest spring wheat closed down 2 1/2.  In the overnight trade corn and the wheat sector are positive with soybeans on the negative side.  Oil closed up $0.23 on Friday at $87.06 per barrel.  It is weaker in trading this morning with it now priced at $85.43.  Our dollar traded between a low of $0.726 US and a high of $0.728 US on Friday with it closing out at $0.727 US.  It is much weaker this morning with it currently valued at $0.722 US.

Soybeans rallied on Friday with flash sales announced by the USDA of about 50 million bushels.  This rallied soybeans from being a negative for the day to close on the positive side.  They closed roughly 15 cents off the low for the day.  Soybeans have closed positive for 5 of the last 6 trading days.

The corn market also closed about 10 cents off their low for the day to end the week on a positive note.  It traded to a high of $5.09 per bushel for new crop futures which is currently the highest price for the year.  As we noted on Friday the highest price for the year has only come in August once in the past 32 years.  This should be a bullish sign that higher prices are potentially in play for the corn market going forward.

We are seeing a stronger corn market this morning with it being supported by the lower yield reported last week by the Pro Farmer tour.  They came in with a national corn yield of 173.2 bushels per acre.  This is well below the latest USDA projection of 180.7 bushels per acre.  For soybeans they came in with a yield projection of 53.3 bushels per acre which is higher than USDA’s latest projection of 52.7 bushels per acre.

Last week was a strong positive week for our markets.  Both spot corn and harvest corn for this year closed up $10 per tonne with harvest 2027 up $5 per tonne.  Soybeans were the strongest with the spot market and this year’s harvest up $18 per tonne.  Harvest 2027 soybeans were up $9 per tonne.  The winter wheat market was up $4 per tonne for this year’s crop and $5 per tonne for next year’s harvest.  Spring wheat was up $7 per tonne for this year’s harvest and $4 per tonne for next year’s harvest.
