Friday, July 10, 2026, 7:20 am – Thursday was a mixed day for our markets. Harvest corn closed down 4 1/4, harvest soybeans closed down 10 3/4, harvest winter wheat closed up 7 3/4 and harvest spring wheat closed up 3 3/4. In the overnight trade all of our markets are on the negative side. Oil closed down $1.44 at $72.08 per barrel. It is a bit stronger this morning with it now priced at $72.16. Our dollar started out yesterday morning at $0.705 US and then trended higher going up to $0.707 US in the overnight trading. It has eased back a bit this morning with it currently valued at $0.706 US.
Our markets keep changing this week with the question being should there be a weather premium in prices or not. Yesterday the updated forecast had more widespread rains across the US Corn Belt with lower temperatures then was previously forecasted. It seems that the forecast keeps changing and the markets respond accordingly. We should note that temperatures being projected for the remainder of July in the US are still above average temperatures but currently are not high enough to drive prices.
Today the USDA releases their monthly WASDE report. They are expected to decrease US corn ending stocks for the current year due to the stronger than expected export program this year. Soybean stocks will also likely be decreased slightly with the crush market remaining strong in the US. This report does not usually significantly change production estimates for the growing crop and no major change is expected on this side.
Locally crops are generally looking pretty good with fungicide spraying starting for the soybean crop. Winter wheat harvest has started in Southern Ontario and should start here in the East before month end.
If anybody has any old crop wheat on their farm give me a call. Markets are limited but we can still find a bit of demand. We can also say the same thing for corn and soybeans.
