Monday was a mostly positive day for our markets.  Harvest corn closed up 3 1/4, harvest soybeans closed down 4 1/4, spot winter wheat closed up 1 1/4 and spot spring wheat closed up 1.  In the overnight trade all of our markets have fallen to the negative side.  Oil closed up $1.89 yesterday at $93.74 per barrel.  It is weaker this morning with it now priced at $91.77.  Our dollar has been mostly flat in trading over the last 24 hours with it currently valued this morning at $0.701 US.

It was nice to see the corn market stabilise yesterday after the beating it took on Friday with the increased projected yield reported by the USDA.  Prices remain under the 100 day moving average and with prices lower this morning that number is getting farther away.  This market is in need of some bullish data to get back trading firmly on the positive side.  This could be some purchases from China or new yield data as the harvest progresses in the US.

Soybeans were unable to trade positive yesterday even with the data from Friday’s report that should have been slightly bullish for this commodity.  It seems that the marketplace is waiting for Chinese purchases to be made once again.  They have not yet purchased 50% of the 25 million target previously mentioned by the US administration for this year.

Managed money were large sellers of their long position (looking for prices to go up) last week prior to the WASDE report on Friday.  Then after the report they were major sellers especially in the corn market and this helped to push corn prices down hard on Friday.  It will be interesting to see where the funds sit this Friday when the updated report gets released.

The Weekly Crop Progress Report is delayed this week by one day due to the Columbus Holiday in the US.  It will be released today with the marketplace watching closely for harvest progress in both corn and soybeans.

I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving Weekend.  Sunday was our busiest day so far this year at the elevator as most combines were rolling.  With the rain this week harvest will be slowing down and we will close at 5 pm until the harvest picks up again.
