Friday was a positive day for our markets. Harvest corn closed up 3, harvest soybeans closed up 20, harvest winter wheat closed up 23 1/4 and harvest spring wheat closed up 11 1/2.  In the overnight trade this weekend all of our markets are on the negative side. Oil closed down $0.31 Friday at $83.40 per barrel. It is stronger in trading again this morning with it now priced at $86.32. Our dollar this morning it is currently valued at $0.720 US.

The grain market closed off last week at new weekly highs for 2026. Which is impressive to see such a bullish grain market in the month of August, this does not follow historical trends at all. The speculative marketers were much more aggressive purchasers than expected. Especially in the corn market.

US export sales met expectations last week with a total of nearly 2.5 million MT of new crop soybeans. China was a purchaser of more than 1 million MT of those MT bringing their total purchases of new crop soybeans to 6.8 million MT for 2026/2027 crop.

Wheat led the market higher last week gaining over $0.70/bushel. Geo-political issues and supply concerns are the main bullish drivers. The shipping concerns in the black sea, the decreased harvest production is the US and other parts of the wheat growing world, there’s not much bearish news in the wheat market right now.

There’s currently opportunity in the soybeans market Nov is trading in the $12/bushel range and deferred Jan beans traded over $13/bushel last week for the first time in 3 years. This is typically not the time of year to think of sell crops going into harvest, but this year could we an exception.

This might be a good time to take a bit more risk off the table or put in some target orders with the market rallying. As many traders in our area say “take a cookie when the plate goes around” If you have any questions or want to discuss the markets please give us a call any time.
